Commonly Asked Questions

Is this therapy or grief counseling?

No—but it may feel just as supportive. While many people seek out grief counseling or search for a “therapist near me” during times of loss or emotional overwhelm, chaplain support offers a different kind of care. It isn’t clinical or diagnostic, though chaplains receive extensive training in clinical and emotional care. Instead, chaplaincy is rooted in presence, deep listening, and compassionate guidance through spiritual and emotional transitions.

Many clients describe the experience as deeply therapeutic, even though it isn’t therapy in the traditional sense. In fact, chaplain care often complements ongoing work with a therapist by creating space to explore meaning, purpose, and spirituality alongside emotional healing.

Not at all. This space is open to everyone—religious, spiritual-but-not-religious, atheist, agnostic, or just unsure. Chaplain care is not about promoting a particular belief system. It’s about helping you connect to what feels true, grounding, and healing for you.

Grief isn’t only about death. I support individuals through all kinds of loss—whether it’s the death of a loved one, a loss of identity, spiritual disconnection, health challenges, divorce, burnout, or major life transitions.

Grief can also show up in surprising places. It often accompanies joyful milestones like retirement, a child’s graduation, or any life change that marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.

Whether you’re facing complicated grief, a spiritual crisis, or the quiet weight of cumulative loss, this is a space where all forms of grief are recognized, welcomed, and honored.

Chaplain care is often more inclusive and less directive than traditional pastoral counseling. Rather than offering answers or religious teachings, I focus on deep listening and helping you explore your own wisdom, questions, and healing process by offering interventions unique to each client.

Absolutely. Many people find that chaplain support enhances the emotional work they’re doing with a therapist or counselor. Where clinical care may focus on mental health or behavior change, chaplain support offers a space to reflect on the spiritual, emotional, or existential dimensions of your journey.

Sessions are conversational and tailored to your needs. Some people come with specific grief or life events they want to process. Others arrive simply feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure—and we explore that together.

You’re welcome to bring your questions, your pain, your hopes, your beliefs, or your doubts. There’s no formula—just a commitment to being present with what’s real for you.

There’s no set timeline. Some people come for a single session during a time of crisis or decision-making. Others engage in ongoing sessions over several months for deeper integration and reflection. We’ll move at a pace that honors your needs and goals.

Chaplain services are typically not covered by insurance. However, they can be a more accessible option for those seeking meaningful support outside of the traditional mental health system. If affordability is a concern, let’s talk about options.
